You Can Still Make 2019 Your Best Year Yet — Here’s How

 It’s a new year, which inevitably means it’s a time for reflecting, goal setting, and resolutions. Even though we are well underway in 2019, it’s never too late to enhance your life. The new year is simply a calendar date that serves as a reminder of a refresh and restart. But any day can be your day to begin taking better care of yourself. Here are some ways to do just that.

Moving and Brushing

For most people, the new year signals a time for exercise, healthy eating, and weight management. All three of these goals are worthy endeavors; they not only can result in a stunning physique, but also in more energy, better skin, and endorphins.

In the shadow of physical fitness, many people overlook their dental hygiene. If you haven’t visited a dentist in the last six months to a year, don’t put it off any longer. Make an appointment. Your dental health impacts your whole body, from your mental health to your heart health to your immune system and skin. Neglecting your teeth can impact your mood, contribute to depression, and derail your success in the new year.

Believing

How you view yourself matters. Your dreams are obtainable, your goals are doable, and your hopes may be realized if you don’t give up on the one person who can bring it all to fruition: you. Self-care, self-confidence, and self-help are not just sections in a bookstore. No one can give you a better quality of life than you can, and you are your best investment.

Start by setting attainable goals. Rome was not built in a day, and your confidence and well-being won’t be either. Take care of yourself, get the right vitamins, eat well, sleep well, take some deep breaths, and speak positive thoughts to yourself. If you do all of these things, your confidence will rise, you will make progress, and your view of life will change.

Resting and Reflecting

Most new year’s resolutions revolve around what other people see. However, what most people actually need in their lives is a change in the things that cannot be seen by the naked eye. If you need an extra pep in your step, lower blood pressure, reduced stress, and a clearer mind, then make time for some mid-day rest. Catching mid-day shut-eye can reverse the negative effects of a sleep-deprived, restless night.

If you find that your phone is almost literally attached to your hand and you suffer from dissatisfaction with your life, perhaps the skewed images on social media are impacting your ability to see the world realistically and causing displeasure in your life. If so, some self-evaluation and a digital detox may be just the cure.

Reading

Another effective method for self-improvement is to start reading more. This should involve sitting down with a novel, non-fiction book, magazine article, or other substantial content that can stimulate your mind and bring tranquility.

How many hours of TV did you watch in 2018? Try cutting that number in half and replacing those hours with reading. You’ll likely notice that you’re less stressed, that you have a better memory, and that you can concentrate better. Also, you will have more general knowledge and a more expansive vocabulary. Can you say impressive?

Don’t let 2019 slip out of your grasp. Get a good exercise routine going, and make sure to give your dental health some attention. Take steps to foster your self-confidence and self-care, and consider taking mid-day naps. Try detoxing from social media, watching less TV, and reading more books. Let today be the start of a better tomorrow.
